While timing chains are generally more durable than belts, they need maintenance. Timing chains can stretch over time, and the tensioners and guides that keep them in place can wear out. Even though they are designed to last the “life of the engine,” they still require inspection and sometimes replacement. If noises come from the timing chain area, you should have it inspected immediately.

The serpentine belt drives multiple accessories, and each accessory puts a different load on the belt. This causes the belt to vibrate or wobble, especially if the belt tensioner is worn or one of the accessory pulleys is out of alignment. While some minor movement is normal, excessive wobbling or vibrations can indicate an issue that needs resolving.

Roller bearing failure is a progressive issue that will only get worse if you continue driving. A failing wheel bearing generates heat and friction. Eventually, the bearing will seize, causing the wheel to lock up, which is extremely dangerous when driving on public roads. Ignoring a failing roller bearing can lead to catastrophic failure and significant safety risks.
